The design industry through the eyes of an undergrad

As I said previously I have been very lucky to of have the opportunity in staying in touch with the guys at Bourn design who offered me my own monthly blog post article. 

Each month I give my thoughts, views and opinions of life as a undergrad. I think this has been a great opportunity as it allows me to reflect on my time at university and to help give the industry a look into my thoughts and opinions of the industry.

Blog Post Dec, Jan 2009:

Due back at university in the next week it will be time for me to begin my final major project. This is a self initiated brief. I will need to consider many factors including a client, proposition, deliverables of the brief etc. I am looking forward to being able to spend time working on my own project and making the most of the freedom and flexibility. Although sometimes I find it quite difficult when not having a clear route to follow.

As a designer I like to raise awareness and encourage positive change based on social, environmental and global issues (e.g recycling, prevention of animal cruelty, child abuse etc)
In the next few days I will be brain storming areas that I enjoy and my areas of interest. From there I will hopefully be able to gage a balance within potential areas to create a interesting, enjoyable brief with a positive outcome.

As I am beginning my FMP this also means that I have 5 crucial months left at university. I find this quite a relief, although nerve wracking at the same time. Asking myself what will I do when graduate? Will I be able to get a job? If not, how long will I be out of work for?

At the moment I am making the most of the freedom and flexibility that being a student can bring. I am enjoying making the most of all my opportunities, before having to settle into a permanent job.
